Tangawizi and Pepsi

06 08 08 - 06:55 WARNING: this link contains insufferable cuteness, enter at your own risk!

We've been thinking for a while about getting a cat for Usa campus, partly to teach the kids about compassion to animals (not common here), partly to bring a friendly edge to the place, and partly to keep the local rodent population in line.

We were still umm-ing & arrr-ing about it when we go a call from a friend of ours who runs a coffee house in town, to say that there was an abandoned kitten in her carrot cupboard. Cue a rescue mission.

Little Tangawizi (Kiswahili for ginger!) was about 4 weeks old, and rather under weight, and he was quite grubby, with his eyes gummed shut, quite as pathetic a life-form as you could imagine.
We scooped him up & took him home, where he's responding well to a bath, some food and a warm bed.

A weeks-worth of the runs was an interesting, if smelly way to learn about kitten-parenting! But he's very fluffy & lovable, so we forgive him most things. He even took to being my alarm clock, by sitting on my bedside table at 5:20am and meowing! Anti-biotics from the amused local vet sorted him out before his nick-name of "smelly poo bum cat" stuck.

Here he is, indulging in a spot of mountaineering up my leg!

"Do you mind? I was sleeping!"

(His eyes are much cleaner now)

Then about a week later, we got another call to say his sister had been found, we thought she'd run away, but turned up at the coffee house.

She's a tabby, so the guys in the coffee house, knowing his brother is called Tangawizi, promptly named her Pepsi.

So now Tangawizi has some company while we are at work, they run round in circles for hours chasing each other.

Not many photos of Pepsi yet, as she's a bit more wild than her brother, as she had another 2 weeks with her mum, and free-run of the cafe in town.

But here's one of them cuddled up together in their bed:

Right, that's enough about our new additions, I'm off to play catch the fingers with Tangawizi...!
